Innovid - Company
http://www.innovid.com/about.php
Identifying the challenges and potential of advertising in-and-around the video environment, Innovid harnessed its creative and technological powers, and set out to deliver online video advertising that works.
Existing Video ads can be intrusive and out of context, and as such, people tend to ignore them. We looked at how viewers perceive in-video advertising, and focused on creating a video ad experience that integrates well with the content, both contextually and visually. Creating positive viewer impressions translates into real value to both advertisers and publishers, leading to better brand experiences and higher click-thru rates.

What Does It Mean To Be An Internet President? - O'Reilly Radar
http://radar.oreilly.com/2009/01/what-does-it-mean-to-be-an-internet-president.html
Quietly at noon yesterday, as the world was fixated on the televised inauguration of Barack Obama, some obscure IT managers flipped a switch (metaphorically) and transferred Change.gov to Whitehouse.gov... While the inauguration spectacle was inspiring and the speech lived up to its promise, Whitehouse.gov is the herald of bigger changes. Government is entering the Internet age and Barack Obama is our first Internet president.

With Wired Products, Will Marketing Leave Agencies And Return Home To The Brands? | PSFK
Marketing guru Russell Davies recently wrote up his notes on his latest presentation on his blog. Russell has been looking at how RFID and similar technology can allow brands to tell stories about their brands. He says that the world is moving to Post Digital and that for any marketer that thought the internet was complicated, they’re going to get a lot more confused. Technology we associate with the web - Twitter tweets, imagery, games and further information - is going to become infused in real products and those products will become their own communication channels. Russell writes:

Obama's Digital Campaign by Camilla Cooke - WPP
http://www.wpp.com/wpp/marketing/digital/obamas-digital-campaign.htm
Obama’s Digital Campaign: Reflections by Camilla Cooke, digital strategist at Wunderman, on what she considers is possibly the best case study for digital direct marketing ever witnessed Now that I’ve managed to stop blubbing, hugging my children and watching re-runs of election night speeches, it’s time to reflect on all the commentary to date and on what is possibly the best case study for digital direct marketing I have ever witnessed. Many journalists and commentators have referred to the incredible marketing “machine” used by Obama’s campaign, and the “brilliance” of his digital communications. From a digital marketing standpoint, it was not so much brilliant as comprehensive. It was the 2.3 million Facebook supports AND the 18 million You Tube views AND the millions of My Space friends AND the 112,000 Twitter followers AND the advertising in Xbox 360 Live games AND the iPhone application etc. etc. The list goes on.

The Open Source Force Behind the Obama Campaign | Linux Journal
http://www.linuxjournal.com/content/open-source-force-behind-obama-campaign
JFK said "Victory has a thousand fathers, but defeat is an orphan." So I'm here to claim Linux-based geek paternity for the successful presidential campaign of Barack Obama. The geeks didn't do it alone, of course. But their role was huge.
I had been following that role ever since covering the Howard Dean Presidential Campaign back in '03-04 for Linux Journal. Get your flashbacks at Saving the Net, The Syndication Solution, Letters from the Campaign Pressure Cooker, Hacking Democracy, Lessons on Open Source Politics from the Campaign Forge — in that order.

Music Industry Imitates Digital Pirates to Turn a Profit - NYTimes.com
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/19/business/worldbusiness/19digital.html?_r=1&ref=technology
Online and mobile services offering listeners unlimited “free” access to millions of songs are set to proliferate in the coming months, according to music industry executives.
Unlike illegal file-sharing services, which the music industry says are responsible for billions of dollars in lost sales, these new offerings are perfectly legal. The services are not really free, but payment is included in the cost of, say, a new cellphone or a broadband Internet access contract, so the cost to the consumer is disguised. And, unlike pirate sites, these services provide revenue to the music companies.

Kubatana - Archive - How to run a mobile advocacy campaign - Kubatana.net - Oct 28, 2008
http://www.kubatana.net/html/archive/inftec/081028kub.asp?sector=INFTEC#download
In a 'mobile advocacy campaign,' your organisation develops a communication strategy that incorporates the sending of text messages to your members' mobile phone numbers. There are many reasons why you might want to do this. Texting gets the attention of your members as it is delivered to a device they carry wherever they go – their mobile phone. It opens up channels for speedy, affordable two-way communications with your members. And in many contexts, more people have access to a mobile phone than they do to email or the Internet. Importantly, they don’t have to be at work or go to an Internet café to get your communications.

NIN's CC-Licensed Best-Selling MP3 Album - Joi Ito's Web
http://joi.ito.com/weblog/2009/01/06/nins-cc-license.html
First, there's the critical acclaim and two Grammy nominations, which testify to the work's strength as a musical piece. But what has got us really excited is how well the album has done with music fans. Aside from generating over $1.6 million in revenue for NIN in its first week, and hitting #1 on Billboard's Electronic charts, Last.fm has the album ranked as the 4th-most-listened to album of the year, with over 5,222,525 scrobbles.

Better than free - Kevin Kelly -- The Technium
http://www.kk.org/thetechnium/archives/2008/01/better_than_fre.php
There are a number of other qualities similar to trust that are difficult to copy, and thus become valuable in this network economy. I think the best way to examine them is not from the eye of the producer, manufacturer, or creator, but from the eye of the user. We can start with a simple user question: why would we ever pay for anything that we could get for free? When anyone buys a version of something they could get for free, what are they purchasing?
